A Study on the Awareness and Performance of Infection Control Among Convalescent Hospital Workers Using IPA
Kim Eun-Hye

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify the awareness and performance of the standard precaution of convalescent hospital workers and to derive priority for infection control by utilizing IPA. For this purpose, response data of 200 employees of 8 geriatric hospitals in K province were used for analysis, and t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, paired t-test, and IPA were performed using SPSS 23.0. As a results, both the awareness and performance of the normative principle differed significantly by gender. There was a positive correlation between awareness and performance. Hand washing, wearing protective equipment and respiratory etiquette among the sub-regions of the standard precaution showed statistically significant differences between awareness and performance. As a result of IPA, both high awareness and performance factors were wearing protective equipment, while high awareness and low performance factors were hand washing. Factors with both low awareness and high performance were linen and environmental management and sharp tool management, while factors with low awareness but high performance were shown as respiratory etiquette. Therefore, improving awareness through infection control education should be prioritized in order to improve standard precaution performance, and for efficient infection control, specific strategies should be developed to improve performance by analyzing the causes of low performance compared to the level.
